This mapping tutorial will take you through the basics of building complex, intriguing, multilevel and generally fun maps inside programs that build maps based off layers.

For the purposes of this exercise the Eclipse engine was used.

The tiles are not publicly available as they have been made or modified specifically for my game. This is to teach you how to map, not to hand out chipsets.

Hope you enjoy it and learn some new skills.

If you want more you should also poke

and get him to submit his map tutorials. Hes generally a better mapper then me, I just craft tiles.

Why? I used to wonder.

Then I went to university, and learned how to not care.

98% of teenagers tried or have made up overly exaggerated statistics. If you are one of the 2% that hasn't, copy and paste this into your signature.

Water rolls off your back. You can take it and probably dish it out a little too.
Glad its helping you man!

Best of luck with your game and be sure to throw back a link when you have something interesting built with it.

And yes, flying admins are very definately great fun

You REALLY shouldn't mix tiles :(
I agree, entirely.

This map was actually made to look crappier when i switched out a heap of my custom drawn tiles i didnt want getting ripped before release of my game. Some quality loss was inevitable.

Sorry.

No need to be sorry hehe, just thought people needed to know that mixing tilesets isn't a good idea. But the tutorial is nice. =]
My finished custom one is entirely 32bit tiles end to end
